Treatment Tuesday: A New Kind of Facial

By Megan Vick

This is both a Treatment Tuesday post and a “That’s Not Vegan” post. I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this – while natural birthing practices are making a comeback for many reasons (most of which are very good), this new facial is still hard to comprehend.

The original article claims that getting facials with human placenta is the latest and greatest Hollywood craze. Supposedly the nourishing proteins, antioxidants, and amino acids which give life to new humans also give a new kind of rejuvenation to skin cells. It’s rumored that Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston, and Reese Witherspoon have all received this treatment – no doubt they’re beautiful. But here’s the thing – how is this skin care skin treatment clinic getting the placentas? What kind of treatments are the placentas receiving before being spread on to someone’s face – no doubt for a pretty penny? If the placentas are being treated to reach a hygienic level, wouldn’t that negate any nourishing, rejuvenating properties?

At the end of the day, can’t we just not smoke, not drink so much, eat more fruits and veggies, and eat less processed food? That sounds like a much better way to retain our youthful appearance, and more importantly, help us age gracefully. We’re going to stick with our Advanced Skin Regimen Day & Night Creams for the meantime.

Would you get a placenta facial? Share your thoughts in the comments. No judgement here.
